Yes, I’m talking about Demolition Man. The reason I’m talking about it is because Sylvester Stallone has been talking about. Namely, a sequel that’s in development.
A modest box office hit (doubling its budget) which received modest critical acclaim (“a better-than-average sci-fi shoot-em-up” according to Rotten Tomatoes) and a modest cult following, Demolition Man might not be Stallone’s greatest achievement but its sci-fi crime world is ripe for a sequel.
The Demolition Man is “looking fantastic” says Stallone
The original film, set in 2032, saw a cryogenically frozen Stallone thawed out to capture his old nemesis, Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes).
Dan Grant listed the film amongst Stallone’s best (outside the Rocky films), saying it is “blessed with a fantastic cast that includes Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Bob Gunton, Dennis Leary and even a quick appearance by Jack Black.” He called the movie “one of the better action films of the 90s”.
Given that Stallone continues to make new sequels to his tentpole works, Demolition Man 2 isn’t entirely a surprise.
In a recent Instagram q and a, the actor said he expected a sequel to be made and that he was “working on it right now with Warner Bros.” He added that it was “looking fantastic” and that it was “going to happen”.
