“Jaws” Back In UK Cinemas In May

Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller Jaws will return to the big screen in the UK in May courtesy of Showcase Cinemas. The blockbuster will be joined by Grease, Brief Encounter and Finding Nemo as part of Showcase Cinema’s Flashback series.

For some this will be the first time they’ve been able to watch these classic movies on the big screen. Jaws was previously released nationwide in the UK to commemorate its anniversary a few years ago but this is the first time it has had a wide release since then.

It’s a great film to see in the theatre as Spielberg always envisioned it to be a thrilling spectacle, both in sound and vision. Indeed, John Williams’ unforgettable score rarely sounds this good – or, indeed, unsettling – while the film’s use of off-screen horror has lost none of its potency over the years.

The jump-out-of-your-seat moment when Hooper discovers Ben Gardner’s severed head while investigating underwater at night is twice as terrifying when viewed on the big screen – even if you’ve seen it ten times before. The same can be said for Brody’s run-in with the shark while chumming fish.

As part of Showcase Cinema’s Flashback series Jaws will be available to see on the big screen on May 8 and May 9. The following week sees Pixar classic Finding Nemo return to the cinema on May 14 and May 15. Grease will screen on May 22 and May 23 and on May 29, British romantic drama Brief Encounter will return to the big screen for one day only.
