Winona Ryder has returned to the world of Edward Scissorhands as part of Cadillac’s Super Bowl commercial in which her “son” Edgar gets the all-electric Cadillac LYRIQ.
In the latest example of a star actor returning to a previous role to sell a product, Ryder can be seen as the mother to Edgar, a teenager navigating through life with scissors for hands.
In one of the best movie-commercial spin-offs of recent years – up there with Macauley Culkin’s return to Home Alone for the Google Assistant advert as well as the Joe Pesci-starring “sequel” – Cadillac’s 60-second advert is a fun and nostalgic trip down memory lane.
Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton said it’s “rare when a work you’re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years. I’m glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to [the original film] for the first time enjoy it.”
