Might We See “Sister Act 3”? “Yes”, Says Whoopi Goldberg

Sister Act and Sister Act 2 saw Whoopi Goldberg’s “star” shine bright, cementing her status as one of the 1990s biggest Hollywood female leads. But after the relatively modest success of the sequel, things went quiet on the Sister Act 3 front.

But now we might be nearing a new sequel. Helped by Disney launching a stage musical version of the hit movie (in which Goldberg was due to appear in on the London stage before Covid-19 caused the theatres to shut down), and its streaming platform Disney+ eager for new hits that draw on past successes, Sister Act 3 appears to be less fanciful than it was a few years ago.

Now, Goldberg, who appeared on the James Corden show recently, appears to have confirmed the wheels are in motion for a new film. She acknowledged that after the sequel, interest seemed to wane for her character Deloris Van Cartier. But “quite recently it turns out, that that may not be true,” she said. “People may want to see it. So we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”
