Following the announcement this week that Cineworld was considering closing for an extended period of time, Showcase Cinemas has reassured audiences it plans to remain open during this difficult time.
Despite the ongoing reshuffling of the Hollywood film release schedule, thus restricting what films cinemas are able to show, crucially removing potentially big-earning movies from the schedule and cutting off key revenues, Showcase Cinemas will stay open to ensure audiences can still enjoy films on the big screen.
In a statement, Mark Barlow, UK General Manager for Showcase Cinemas said: “We were delighted to start reopening our cinemas back in July, and are committed to keeping them open. We are truly passionate about offering guests the best environment to watch a film – in the cinema.
“We have introduced a number of new safety measures as part of our Be Showcase Safe programme, from socially distanced seating and staggered film times to sanitising stations throughout and every seat being sprayed after every show with a non-chemical anti-viral spray – all to help keep our guests and employees as safe as possible.
“Having served local communities for over 30 years in the UK, we know how much the cinema experience means to families, friends and film lovers. Whether it’s a thriller that puts you on the edge of your seat, or a comedy that has you in fits of laughter, seeing a film on the big screen is an immersive experience like no other.
“Film has the unique power to transport and offers an escape from the outside world – something we all could do with at the moment.
“So, as the days get shorter you can enjoy a range of classic films, recent favourites, new releases and our ever popular Event Cinema screenings at Showcase, with tickets from just £5.”
It comes after reports Cineworld was to close until the new year, with Picturehouse following suit, and Odeon issuing a statement to customers that certain sites would now only be opening Friday-Sunday.
Despite reports that Cineworld could close on October 8, news that has been heavily criticised, it is currently sticking by its public statement issued on Twitter that its decision to shut is still pending.
