4DX continues to see a rise in UK success alongside achieving a record-breaking Q3 globally, reaching a staggering $90M at the box office.
CJ 4DPLEX, the world’s leading cinema technology company, recently announced that 4DX has broken new records with more than 7.3 million worldwide attendees and $90 million at box office in the third quarter, 2019. This is the best quarterly performances since 4DX’s debut in 2009.
The UK also sees an impressive growth for the company, with an annual 23% rise in attendees, climbing to 250,000 people and the total amount of sites increasing to 24 from 22, opening in Ashton Under Lyne and Cheltenham. The most successful cinemas in the UK are London 02 Greenwich and Leicester Square, followed by Rushden, all seeing success with high performing films including ‘The Lion King’, ‘Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw’ and ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’.
The three UK leading film are the same globally, exceeding a million worldwide attendees for each title and grossed a total of $52M combined. Especially ‘The Lion King’ is ranked the second highest position at the global 4DX box office in this year.
In comparison to Q3 of last year, the global box office grew 20% in revenue from $75million with an attendance increase of 18% from 6.2million attendees. The highest increase of the 4DX box office in the third quarter was 290% in Australia, followed by Austria (218%), Netherlands (170%), Bulgaria (149%), U.S (134%) and Belgium (111%). Overall, the top seven countries at the box office this year include China, Korea, Japan, France, Mexico, United Kingdom and the U.S., up 15% year-over-year, accounting for 68% of the total revenue for the year. Since its launch, 4DX has accumulated $1.4Billion in revenue and 109 million attendees since it’s opening in 2009.
Thanks to strong global box office performance, a total of 23 auditoriums were newly opened in 10 countries, including the UK, China, the USA, Canada, France, Japan, Ukraine, Switzerland, Mongolia and Nigeria during the third quarter. 4DX with ScreenX, a cutting-edge format, was also opened in Japan and China, getting an overwhelmingly positive response from moviegoers and was awarded the ‘2019 iResearch Award’ in the ‘Originati
