The bookies have set Joaquin Phoenix as favourite to win the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in Joker. Renee Zellweger is tipped to win Best Actress for Judy.
Renee Zellweger is evens with Betway to win the Best Actress award for Judy at next year’s Oscars, while Joaquin Phoenix has been installed as the bookie’s 4/6 favourite to be crowned Best Actor for his rendition of the Joker.
Zellweger’s portrayal of Judy Garland has been met with rave reviews and the 50-year-old is fancied to win her second Academy Award, 17 years after she won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Cold Mountain.
Meanwhile, Joker is the leading online bookmaker’s 7/2 co-favourite with The Irishman to win the Best Picture Oscar, with lead actor Phoenix fancied to take home the top male individual gong.
Betway’s Alan Alger said: “Renee Zellweger is probably best known for Bridget Jones, but it’s her performance in Judy which has got the critics talking. We make her just even-money to win the Best Actress award at next year’s Oscars and in doing so claiming the second Academy Award of her career.
“The Best Actor category has an even more standout candidate, though, with Joaquin Phoenix just 4/6 to win an Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker. The film has earnt impressive reviews, not least because of Phoenix’s acting, and we make the Todd Phillips thriller the 7/2 co-favourite to win the Best Picture award alongside The Irishman.”
