Harmony Korine’s “The Beach Bum” Hits Cinemas On October 25

Harmony Korine’s new film The Beach Bum starring Matthew McConaughey and Snoop Dogg will enjoy a run in select cinemas from October 25 before becoming available for digital download on October 30.

Harmony Korine, known for making the provocative Spring Breakers as well as the offbeat Mister Lonely and Trash Humpers following his 1997 debut Gummo, introduces us to The Beach Bum on October 25.

His latest film follows Matthew McConaughey’s outrageous misadventures as Moondog, a rebellious pot-smoking poet who lives life in the Sunshine State by his own rules. His talent with words is constrained by his indulgence in booze and drugs, a potential career hamstrung by his satisfaction to hang out with friends such as R&B singer Lingerie (Snoop Dogg) and Zac Efron’s ex-addict Flicker in a drunken haze of neon-soaked parties.

The Guardian’s Kristy Puchko calls it a “film that is joyous, outrageous and slyly mournful” while Rolling Stone said it is a “spiritual sequel to Spring Breakers in its own warped way” that is an “epic of ridiculousness”. “The Beach Bum’s brilliant embrace of body, pleasure and art feels like Paradise”, added Kyle Turner in his review on npr.org.

McConaughey is joined by a stellar cast which includes Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, Jonah Hill and music legend Jimmy Buffett. From the enfant terrible of independent American cinema, this is another wildly original and subversive comedy.

The Beach Bum is in select cinemas October 25 and on digital download from October 30.
