“The Birthday Cake” Will Mark The Directional Debut Of Jim Giannopoulos

The Birthday Cake marks the feature directional debut for Jim Giannopoulos, and names such as Shiloh Fernandez, Val Kilmer and Ewan McGregor have joined the mob crime drama.

The indie sees Shiloh Fernandez take on the role of Giovanni, who reluctantly continues the family tradition of bringing a cake to his uncle’s home, Angelo (Val Kilmer), on the 10th anniversary of his father’s death. One night however, Giovanni’s life changes forever, as he witnesses a murder which leads to him uncovering the truth about what happened to his father a decade prior.

Jim Giannopoulos co-wrote the script with Fernandez and Diomedes Raul Bermudez, and comes from an original story by Giannopoulos himself.

Lorraine Bracco, Ashley Benson and David Mazouz round out the pic’s ensemble cast.

Sean Price Williams is the director of photography on The Birthday Cake. While Giannopoulos, who has previously directed short films, and has collaborated with Miley Cyrus, A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi and others on music projects, is expected to bring something special to the world of feature film directing.

Bermudez, Siena Oberman and Fernandez are producing the movie, which is set to shoot this fall in New York City, while Jamin O’Brien and Jason Weinberg will executive produce.

Fernandez is repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment; Kilmer is with CAA, LINK Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein; Bracco is repped by Innovative Artists and One Entertainment; Benson is with ICM; Mazouz is repped by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment; and McGregor is repped by UTA and Robert Offer.
