Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw will boast the extra-sensory delights of 4DX in select UK cinemas as air pops, strobe lights and vibration amongst other things bring the movie a new level of immersion.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw will immerse audiences in 4DX through the use of smoke, strobe lighting, air pops, vibration and other techniques to create physical interaction between the on-screen events and the viewer.
Eight films and $5 billion later, the Fast & Furious franchise movies into a new era with Hobbs & Shaw. Focused on Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s eponymous characters, the spin-off sequel sees the unlikely alliance between the US Diplomatic Security Agent and Deckard Shaw.
“We focused a lot on vibration design to differentiate all types of vehicles, from motorcycles, helicopters, fighters jets and luxury vehicles, to express how the engines rumble and utilised a combination of the chair’s roll (left, right) and pitch (forward, back) motion movements for the scenes, adding a lot of energy and fun to the 4DX experience,” says David Bae, i-Studio editor.
4DX captures the intensity of the action scenes through, for example, air pops and water jets adding to the impact of explosions, strobe lighting giving flying bullets an added sense of realism, and vibration to put you inside the car during chase sequences.
The 4DX technology will give audiences a new way to experience director David Leitch’s film which sees Idris Elba’s cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton gaining control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever. After he bests a fearless rogue MI6 agent (The Crown’s Vanessa Kirby), who just happens to be Shaw’s sister — Hobbs joins forces with Shaw to tackle this powerful villain.
“In terms of environmental effects for Hobbs & Shaw, fog, strobe, fan, face air, leg ticklers and back kickers have been used to enhance action sequences that range from hand-to-hand combat sequences, large-scale action, and to express bullets and explosions,” said Reny Nazarian, i-Studio editor.
“A sequence that stands out is when Hobbs and Shaw catch the helicopter with a chain while trying to hold on to it with the help of other vehicles on the ground. All environmental effects have been uniquely designed to bring out the exciting energy of this action sequence.”
Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw is in UK Cinemas on August 2, 2019.
