Edward Furlong will return to the role of John Connor, the first actor to reprise the role following single outings for Christian Bale, Jason Clarke, and Nick Stahl, in upcoming T2 sequel Terminator: Dark Fate.
The news that Edward Furlong will return to the role of John Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate might be the most significant indication yet that Tim Miller’s film is a direct sequel to T2.
It means the principle cast of the first Terminator sequel are all back together (with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton also returning) and suggests that the latest film in the franchise will pick up the story where T2 left off.
Furlong starred as the young son of Sarah Connor in T2: Judgment Day but hasn’t returned for the sequels since then despite the character making an appearance. Revealed during a panel discussion at Comic Con in San Diego, the news of his return came via video message from the Avatar set where James Cameron is currently busily putting together his latest action-adventure. The writer-director of the first two Terminator movies made the announcement on the big screen as the film’s cast watched on from the massive Hall H at Comic Con.
Terminator: Dark Fate opens on October 25.
