The highly acclaimed comedy-drama Benjamin from writer-director Simon Amstell arrives on DVD on August 12. Described as “funny, bittersweet and affecting” by Empire’s Simon Freer, the film stars Colin Morgan, Phenix Brossard and Joel Fry.
Empire’s Ian Freer called it a “funny, bittersweet and affecting” film that features, according to The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw, a “miraculously heartfelt love story”. Simon Amstell’s highly praised feature debut as writer and director comes to DVD on August 12.
Benjamin tells the story of its eponymous protagonist (Colin Morgan), a rising star in the film industry. He is thrown into emotional turmoil on the brink of premiering his sophomore film when Billie, his hedonistic publicist, introduces him to a mesmeric French musician called Noah.
With the back streets of East and North London as its stage and original music from the Klaxons’ James Righton, Benjamin has won praise for its script, direction and performances.
“Sweet and poignant in all its awkwardness”, Benjamin, following its exceptional critical response after its theatrical bow in April, Amstell, known as a comedian and actor previously, will hope the film will find a new audience on DVD while giving fans another chance to relive it.
Benjamin is on DVD from August 12.
