Hotel Mumbai will arrive in UK cinemas on September 27 at the same time it hits TV for Sky Cinema subscribers. The powerful and poignant debut from director Anthony Maras tells the tragic story of the 2008 terrorist attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai.
September 27 will see Hotel Mumbai released simultaneously at cinemas and on Sky Cinema for subscribers. The powerful and poignant debut from director Anthony Maras, described by critic Richard Roeper as “a chilling and valuable reminder of acts of madness, and acts of heroism, that should never be forgotten”, tells the tragic story of the 2008 terrorist attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai.
Featuring a strong ensemble cast including Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Anupam Kher, Hotel Mumbai sees the wave of devastating terror attacks throughout Mumbai on the November 26 2008, catapult the bustling Indian metropolis into chaos.
Mixing heartache with heroism, the city’s tourist district is besieged by jihadist terrorists who attack the iconic Taj Palace Hotel, whose guests and staff become trapped in a day-long fight for survival. Also starring Jason Isaacs and Nazanin Boniadi, Maras’ film is an emotional and visceral depiction of one of the most harrowing terrorist attacks of the 21st century.
“An unforgiving movie that never stops. It hits the audience with the force of a relentless train,” says Federico Furzan of Cinelipsis, the film enjoyed its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and has since earned widespread acclaim.
Sky Cinema Original Film’s Head of Acquisitions Julia Stuart says it’s another coup for the subscription-based TV service after the success of similarly released Extremely Wicked. “This is a powerful movie that we think will really resonate with audiences across the whole of UK and Ireland.
“Following on from the success of Extremely Wicked, we’re delighted to be able to share another film that shares a true story with an engaged audience.”
Hotel Mumbai will be released in UK and Irish cinemas and be available on Sky Cinema from September 27 2019.
