Robert Zemeckis’ Pre-“Back To The Future” Comedy “Used Cars” Gets Premium Blu-ray Release

Before Robert Zemeckis became a superstar director courtesy of Back to the Future’s box office success, he made comedy Used Cars, a screwball comedy starring a young Kurt Russell and the brilliant Jack Warden. Eureka will release a limited edition Blu-ray in August.

Kurt Russell - Used Cars

Before Robert Zemeckis gave us Back to the Future, he conspired with friend and co-writer Bob Gale to produce screwball comedy Used Cars. Starring a young Kurt Russell and the brilliant Jack Warden, this 1980 comedy about unscrupulous car salesmen has grown in stature as a cult hit.

Now Eureka has dusted off the print for a bumper limited edition Blu-ray featuring a collector’s booklet that includes new essays by author Scott Harrison and film writer Phil Hoad. The Blu-ray release, the first time Used Cars has appeared on the format in the UK, adds another appealing hit to Eureka’s Classics range.

On the Blu-ray, viewers will find an audio commentary with director Robert Zemeckis, producer/co-writer Bob Gale, and star Kurt Russell, an isolated Patrick Williams score track, and the unused isolated score of Ernest Gold.

Bob Gale also talks us through the production in a 27-minute film called Would You Buy a Used Car from These Men? while we’re also privileged to hear a radio interview with Kurt Russell. There’s a gag reel, deleted scenes, and a fun commercial starring Russell.

The 1080p presentation of the film can be watched with either uncompressed LPCM (the original mono presentation) or DTS-HD MA 5.1. There are also optional English SDH subtitles.

Robert Zemeckis’ Used Cars starring Kurt Russell and Jack Warden arrives as part of the Eureka Classics range on August 12, 2019.
