Similar to Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter telling us about the new Bill and Ted movie while stood outside the Hollywood Bowl, Paul Rudd took a moment out of his sightseeing trip to the Big Apple to reveal, while standing across the road from the Ghostbusters building, that he will appear in the new comedy-horror from director Jason Reitman.
There’s a new Ghostbusters movie coming. If that isn’t exciting enough, Ant-Man star Paul Rudd has announced he’ll be one of its stars.
And he did it in the coolest way; characteristically down-to-earth, funny and charming. Stood outside the touristy hotspot in New York City, Rudd recorded a selfie video of him admiring the building once used as the home of the Ghostbusters.
In the short video he says: “When I heard that Jason Reitman was going to be doing a new version in the fall, my agents called him and said, ‘Hey Jason, we hear there’s the part of a young – semi-young – strapping man that needs to be cast, who are you going to call?’”
The son of Ivan Reitman who made the original Ghostbusters movie, Jason Reitman’s film is rumoured to feature Finn Wolfhard, the star of Netflix’s Stranger Things which often referenced 1980s movies and offered a subtle nod to Ghostbusters 2 during one episode in season 1. Wolfhard is expected to be joined by Gifted star Mckenna Grace in the cast also.
Reitman co-wrote the screenplay with Gil Kenan and expects to begin shooting later this summer according to Variety. Sigourney Weaver has hinted at returning to the role she originally played with Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson also featuring.
It is yet to be determined whether or not Murray will get his wish to return as a ghost. There has been no mention of Rick Moranis (who played Louis Tully in the original films) coming out of retirement while the film will pay tribute to the late Harold Ramis.
Ghostbusters 2020 is expected to hit cinemas in summer of next year.
