Rami Malek is set to play James Bond’s mysterious villain in the 25th film of the franchise which begins filming on April 28. Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge has joined the writing team.
Principle photography on James Bond 25 is about to get underway in Jamaica. The film’s producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, confirmed the start date at a special event at “GoldenEye” in Jamaica, the once-home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming where he created the eponymous character in 1952.
Confirming the cast, director Cary Fukunaga said Ralph Fiennes, Rory Kinnear, Naomie Harris, Léa Seydoux, Jeffrey Wright and Ben Whishaw were all returning alongside Daniel Craig with newcomers Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Billy Magnussen and Rami Malek. Fleabag’s multi-talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been confirmed as one of the film’s writers.
What little is known of the plot involves Bond, having left active service, trying to live a tranquil life in the West Indies. His peace is interrupted when old friend Felix Leiter turns up saying the CIA needs his help. His mission, which involves him finding a kidnapped scientist, leads him to Malek’s villain who is armed with dangerous new technology.
The latest 007 production, which saw its start-of-production event live stream across its channels on 007.com, Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, will be based at Pinewood Studios in the UK, and on location in London, Italy, Jamaica and Norway.
“We’re thrilled to return to Jamaica with Bond 25, Daniel Craig’s fifth instalment in the 007 series, where Ian Fleming created the iconic James Bond character and Dr No and Live And Let Die were filmed,” said Wilson and Broccoli in a statement.
The film comes on the heels of Spectre, which was a global box office hit, opening #1 in 81 territories around the world, including the U.S., and earning $880 million worldwide. This was, however, short of Skyfall (the 23rd Bond movie), which made $1.1 billion worldwide.
James Bond 25 is released in the UK and internationally on April 3, 2020.
