The Most Loved & Hated “Game Of Thrones” Characters

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is only days away, and fans around the world can hardly contain their excitement. Over the course of its run, the show has always kept us guessing, never letting us know what will happen next.

Death is a common occurrence in the Seven Kingdoms, with plenty of characters being killed off over the years. As the show reaches its finale, we can expect the body count to continue to rise. But who would fans be most upset to see go?

musicMagpie have analysed over 131 million tweets to find out which characters the public love, which they hate and who they just can’t stop talking about. Some of the findings might surprise you.

Coming out on top as the most popular character on Game of Thrones is Tormund Giantsbane, with 57% of the tweets about him being joyous. Taking second place is Brienne of Tarth, with 49% joyous tweets.

  2. Brienne of Tarth – 49% joy
  3. Samwell Tarly – 42% joy
  4. Tyrion Lannister– 42% joy
  5. Ygritte – 37% joy

While there are plenty of characters that fans love, there are also a lot we’ve grown to hate over the years. Unsurprisingly, Bronn takes the number 1 spot as the most hated character on Game of Thrones, with 24% of the tweets about him being angry. It’d be hard to argue with the rest of the top five either.

  1. Bronn – 24% anger
  2. Theon Greyjoy – 17% anger
  3. Bran Stark – 17% anger
  4. Joffrey Baratheon – 17% anger
  5. Jaime Lannister – 16% anger

However, just because certain characters are loved or hated by fans, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the ones we can’t stop talking about. musicMagpie also looked at the characters which have caused the most online discussion since the show began, with Jon Snow taking the top spot with a whopping 2,910,331 mentions!

  2. Daenerys Targaryen – 2,654,984 mentions
  3. Arya Stark – 1,374,955 mentions
  4. Sansa Stark – 1,080,462 mentions
  5. Tyrion Lannister – 991,965 mentions

The research also looks at the most talked about episodes of the series so far, with the season 7 finale taking the top spot, generating 2,423,798 posts on the day it first aired. Unsurprisingly, this episode, which saw the Night King use the reanimated Viserion to destroy Eastwatch, made fans pretty upset, with 53% of all tweets being sad!
