There are many rumours about potential Marvel projects, such as a Black Widow solo film, starring Scarlett Johansson and, potentially, Priyanka Chopra’s own Marvel adventure.
While there are many rumours circulation the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one that appears to be growing traction is Priyanka Chopra’s role in upcoming Marvel content. There’s growing talk of the Bollywood megastar becoming one of the stars of the next stage of Marvel’s movie legacy.
Marvel Studio’s is set to wrap up its 22-film arc spread across the last decade with Avengers: Endgame. A direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame is set to pick up after Thanos wiped out half of the population within the Universe.
With focus now shifting to the surviving heroes, and the spotlight on the original cast who are potentially in for their final mission as a team, audiences should prepare to witness many casualties.
While all this is taking place, there is talk of new faces to join the cast, one of who is Indian actress, Chopra. Given the number of casualties expected, Marvel Studio’s are on the hunt to fill their superhero roles after the likes of Iron Man and Captain America are no longer around to complete “phase 4”.
Currently, Marvel president, Kevin Feige and his team, are still quite secretive about what projects are in the pipe line after Spider-Man: Far From Home, which will usher the new era of the MCU. There are some rumblings about potential projects, such as a Black Widow solo film, starring Scarlett Johansson. Some sequels are currently under way and have locked in their respective directors, including Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, all of which are supposedly in their early stages of development.
Based on recent comments from Chopra, who has successfully transition from Indian cinema to Hollywood, staring in such hits as Baywatch, it would come as no surprise if she was to star in any of these upcoming blockbusters.
Apparently, things are already in motion to bring her forth into the superhero realms, Russo named Chopra as the Indian actor he wants to work with in the MCU when speaking to the Hindustan Times: “I’d love to work with Priyanka. I’m smiling only because we’re potentially talking to her about something, I’m just not going to say what yet.”
The director is currently in India, set to kick off the global marketing campaign for Endgame, after saying he purposely wanted the South Asian nation to be a stop on the press tour. This is in response to the growing number of passionate fans in the country.
As the MCU begins a new chapter after Endgame, the studio is committed to creating better representation across their films. Including Chopra would be a major step in the right direction of this undertaking.
She has successfully transitioned from being a beauty queen (crowned Miss World in 2000) to an actress, and has made a name for herself in Indian show business before landing the lead role in ABC’s Quantico, a thriller series. She has married singer Nick Jonas (prompting some bizarre publicity) and has landed a recent film role in Netflix’s Isn’t it Romantic. Chopra’s previous roles showcase her abilities and she has proved through a variety of different characters that she would make a versatile addition to the franchise.
Aiming towards a more diverse cast could see Chopra as a headline character, with the potential to join Angelina Jolie. The introduction of an Indian hero could be similar to what the studios are undertaking with Shang Chi, and Marvel has had several Indian superheroes from the pages of the comics, such as X-Men 2099.
The MCU is set to represent a new phase of diversity for the studio, and fans can expect a multitude of good things that will come from a new wave of thinking and filmmaking.
