7 Of The Shortest Marriages In Hollywood (And Where Nic Cage’s Latest Failed Romance Ranks)

As Nic Cage sees another marriage end, this time to makeup artist Erika Koike, their four days of wedlock got Top 10 Films thinking about Hollywood’s shortest marriages. In fact, how many times would Cage feature and where does his latest romantic failure rank?

Last month Nic Cage married for the fourth time – on this occasion to makeup artist Erika Koike – only to file for annulment four days later to smash his previous record of three months of marriage to Lisa Marie Presley. He’s not the only Hollywood star to endure the fading light of romance post-wedlock; indeed, Ethel Merman and fellow serial “wedder” Ernest Borgnine famously lasted four weeks after getting hitched. That relationship, however, was rather enduring compared to Britney Spears’ marriage to Jason Alexander, which lasted two days.

Sticking with the movies, there have been some short marriages in recent years including Nic Cage’s own to Lisa Marie Presley. They managed three months before deciding they weren’t meant for each other. Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray, like Charlie Sheen and Donna Peele, and Drew Barrymore and Tom Green saw their marriages to each other last five months. Yet, perhaps surprisingly, they don’t make our top seven which, funnily enough, sees Mr Cage appear twice! In this look at real life romance-gone-wrong, with stories that could be the basis for the next War of the Roses, we find out where Cage’s recently annulled relationship ranks in the shortest Hollywood marriages.

7. Renee Zellweger & Kenny Chesney

Mrs Bridget Jones, Renee Zellweger is seemingly unlucky in love. She’s had a number of high profile relationships including being engaged to her Me, Myself and Irene co-star Jim Carrey and enjoying a two-year relationship with Bradley Cooper. But her appearance on this list concerns her ill-fated, four-month marriage to American country music singer Kenny Chesney. Bizarrely, the marriage ended with a gobbledegook joint statement that read: “The miscommunication of the objective of their marriage at the start is the only reason for this annulment.”

6. Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Esposito

Rather dismissed as “just something that happened”, the A Star Is Born actor, director, co-writer and co-composer Bradley Cooper doesn’t look back on his four-month marriage to former Spin City actor Jennifer Esposito with much fondness.

5. Nic Cage & Lisa Marie Presley

Nic Cage loves a brief romance. His marriage to Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie, who had previously seen a short-lived marriage to Michael Jackson end after nine months, lasted just 108 days.

4. Mario Lopez & Ali Landry

Mario Lopez and Ali Landry

Nic Cage’s 108 day marriage to Lisa Marie Presley was a success in comparison to Mario Lopez and Ali Landry’s two-week wedlock. The couple had been together for years prior to marriage so it was strange to see them call it quits so soon after tying the knot.

3. Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds joined the two-week marriage club after their New Year’s Day 2008 ceremony on a private island was met with the decision to not legalise their relationship in the United States.

2. Carmen Electra & Dennis Rodman

Unlike Mario Lopez and Ali Landry, who had been together for six years prior to their two-week marriage, Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman had been dating for less than a year when they got hitched. The marriage lasted six days because, initially, Rodman said he was drunk during the nuptials. He later tried to reconcile but Electra made things official by filing for divorce.

1. Nic Cage & Erika Koike

And the winner is: Nic Cage. The star of Snake Eyes, Face/Off, Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation decided his marriage to makeup artist Erika Koike could not go on… after just four days!
