Harry Potter breaks records at UK box office

Monday 22nd November 2010Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 was expected to do well at the box office the entire world over. As predicted, in the UK, the film has smashed records including the biggest Friday, biggest Saturday and the biggest Sunday of all time at UK cinemas. This gives the film the most profitable three day opening in history, as well as breaking the single day record.

The record for biggest three day opening and biggest Friday was held by Quantum of Solace with a three day opening of £15.3 million and a biggest Friday of £4.9 million. Biggest single day was previously held by another Harry Potter film – Goblet of Fire – which took £5.6 million on Saturday and £5.2 million on Sunday.

Josh Berger, President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Entertainment UK said, “The opening of this film has become an extraordinary worldwide event. These remarkable box office numbers are a testament to the talents of the filmmakers, cast and to the vision of J.K. Rowling, the creator of this magical world. We congratulate everyone involved in the film, all of whom share in this success.”
