Monday 22nd November 2010 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 was expected to do well at the box office the entire world over. As predicted, in the UK, the film has smashed records including the biggest Friday, biggest Saturday and the biggest Sunday of all time at UK cinemas. This gives the film the most profitable three day opening in history, as well as breaking the single day record.
The record for biggest three day opening and biggest Friday was held by Quantum of Solace with a three day opening of £15.3 million and a biggest Friday of £4.9 million. Biggest single day was previously held by another Harry Potter film – Goblet of Fire – which took £5.6 million on Saturday and £5.2 million on Sunday.

The Harry Potter franchise is the biggest selling movie franchise in history with a collective worldwide gross of $5.4 billion.
