Meet Patriot, Potomac, Primrose, Poppet, and Phil – five spirited puppies who, from the moment they’re born, begin an incredible journey to become guide dogs for the blind.
Arriving on Digital and at cinemas on May 17 is Pick of the Litter. “A near perfect documentary” (Film Threat), directors Don Hardy and Dana Nachman follow five spirited puppies who, from the moment they’re born, begin an incredible journey to become guide dogs for the blind.
A two-year odyssey for the dogs, Pick of the Litter had its world premiere at the Slamdance Film Festival and immediately won over critics whose consensus on Rotten Tomatoes describes the film as enjoying all “the fluffy adorableness audiences expect from a puppy documentary, along with a story that’s as edifying as it is heartwarming.”
Sold within 48 hours of its premiere, the documentary follows these pups through intense training to become dogs whose ultimate responsibility is to protect their blind partners from harm. Along the way, these remarkable animals rely on a community of dedicated individuals who train them to do amazing, life-changing things in the service of their human.
With deft storytelling skill, Nachman and Hardy (who previously worked together on feature docs The Human Experiment, Witch Hunt, and Love Hate Love) introduce us to a group of unique canine characters along with their human counterparts.
Pick of the Litter “is made with heart and reverence for man’s best friend, especially those special pooches who go on to answer a higher calling,” said Detroit News’ Adam Graham. Indeed, the film is a wonderful reminder of the extraordinary relationships we have with our dogs, especially those that we work beside each day.
Signature Entertainment presents Pick of the Litter at Cinemas and on Digital HD from May 17.
