Avengers: Endgame star Chris Hemsworth will swap Thor for Hulk but not as you might expect. The actor who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last few years as the hammer-wielding Asgardian superhero will enter the WWE ring to play Hulk Hogan in a new Netflix original film.
The new Netflix film, about Hulk Hogan’s rise to fame as a wrestler in the 1980s, sees Chris Hemsworth (acting as producer with Guardians of the Galaxy star Bradley Cooper) play one of wrestling’s biggest names in a biopic focused on his glory days.
Swapping Thor for Hulk seems like a good fit for the star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly because Hemsworth possesses a singular muscular physique that few other actors of his quality can match. Given WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s sheer size, Hemsworth might even have to hit the gym prior to the cameras rolling.
Hogan, who started his career in the 1970s, went from small-scale Floridian events in front of a few devoted fans to super stardom on the WWE stage in front of millions. His celebrity saw him appear on magazine covers, TV chat shows, and even become the face of a Saturday morning cartoon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, where the news of the film was first reported, Hemsworth and co will steer clear of Hogan’s later-life controversies.
The first man to win the Royal Rumble in consecutive years (1990 and 1991), Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Sly Stallone in 2005. That was prior to the wrestling family cutting ties with him in 2015 after news of him using offensive language resurfaced. He apologised and in 2018, WWE welcomed him back after Hogan began working with young people to help them learn from his mistake.
