The Song of Bernadette

One of Hollywood’s rarest studio films to address religious conviction and spiritual belief in both a serious and complex fashion – The Song of Bernadette, is being released on Blu-Ray through Eureka Entertainment.

Exploring the intimate and spiritual biopic of one girl’s ultimate test of faith, The Song of Bernadette made a star out of its leading actress Jennifer Jones. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe during the Award’s very first ceremony, Jones offers a remarkably moving portrait of faith in a film that has gained status as one of director Henry King’s crowning achievements.

For the first time ever, The Song of Bernadette will be available on Blu-Ray from April 8, 2019. This release comes as part of the Eureka Classic’s range, presented with a limited-edition slipcase and collectors’ booklet, with only 2000 copies available for sale.

The Song of Bernadette is based on Franz Werfel’s best-selling historical novel. The film chronicles the life of Bernadette Soubirous, a 14-year-old girl who began to see strange visions of the blessed virgin Mary.

Taking place in Lourdes, France, 1858, the news of Bernadette’s visions travels fast. With people claiming her to be mentally unsound, and others having complete, wholehearted belief in her unusual gift. Bernadette’s visions become of particular interest when a spring that erupts near a grotto that housed visitations contains a water that seems to offer obscure, and even miraculous, healing abilities.

The sensational performance of Jones is uplifted by equally as noteworthy performances by Vincent Price, Charles Bickford, Gladys Cooper and Lee J. Cobb. The film also features stunning cinematography by Arthur C. Miller.

The Song of Bernadette takes the notion of a drama and turns this into something profoundly affecting and dignified. With an overall message that no matter what one’s own personal beliefs may be, and where they stem from, something remarkable may just happen.

The Song of Bernadette is on UK Blu-ray from April 8 2019.
