Avengers: Endgame is unsurprisingly fancied by the bookmakers to be 2019’s biggest box office draw as Marvel’s monopoly on the blockbuster continues.
Marvel’s monopoly on the blockbuster is set to continue in 2019 with bookmakers tipping Avengers: Endgame to top the box office. The studio behind the popular franchise has witnessed its prized asset make the top 3 earners in America in almost every year since Harry Potter finished in 2011, and that trend is likely to continue.
Indeed, Avengers: Endgame is tipped by Betway to be the highest grossing movie of 2019 at the UK box office, beating Star Wars: Episode IX and third-favourite Toy Story 4 to the number one spot. Superhero movies are expected to be the biggest draws again with Wonder Woman 1984, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel featuring in the predicted top 10.
“There certainly seems to be a theme amongst next year’s top candidates for highest grossing movie,” said Betway’s Alan Alger who notes Avengers: Endgame is currently listed at 11/8 favourite amongst a group mainly consisting of superhero and animated pictures.
“Not too far behind though is Star Wars: Episode IX, which we go 6/4 to pull in the most money in the UK, while we go 5/1 for the fourth movie in the Toy Story franchise and 11/2 and 8/1, respectively, for The Lion King and Frozen 2 to generate the most money at the box office.”
