Christmas 2018 Sees Brits Ditch DVDs For Their Favourite Streaming Provider

New research from LaptopsDirect.co.uk found that of 1,024 UK adults, 73% say they will be watching their favourite Christmas movies on VOD rather than DVD this year.

It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Movies

In another nail in the coffin of physical media, a recent poll has shown a majority of Brits favoured streaming their favourite Christmas movies in 2018 rather than watch them on DVD or Blu-ray.

According to the poll, which surveyed 1,024 UK adults, only 27% will be seeking a DVD purchase as their route to their favourite Christmas film. 73% instead said they’d get their Christmas movie fix from online streaming platforms like Netflix.

While tradition won out in the “best Christmas movie” stakes with It’s A Wonderful Life getting 71% of the vote, Netflix originals are beginning to disrupt the status quo with A Christmas Prince ranking highly and Kurt Russell-starring The Christmas Chronicles breaking into the top 5.

The research found that most people watch their first Christmas movie when putting up the tree (as this is when the festive season starts for them) while, on average, Brits will watch a total of six Christmas movies during the holiday.
