Sometimes Always Never

Debuting feature film director Carl Hunter’s affectionate comedy-drama, Sometimes Always Never, will be released in UK cinemas on February 22 before a Digital Download release. The film, which is written by Hunter’s Grow Your Own collaborator Frank Cottrell Boyce, sees Bill Nighy’s Scrabble-obsessed Merseyside tailor Alan, begin a search for his lost son while trying to solve the issues that strain his relationship with his other child (played by Sam Riley).

Also starring Jenny Agutter, Prevenge writer, director and star Alice Lowe and Tim McInnerny, Sometimes Always Never comes from a witty and astute script by the screenwriter of 24 Hour Party People and benefits from the visual style of its first-time director to capture the shifting moods of a family who, despite boasting an uncommonly grand vocabulary, struggle to communicate.

Described by The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw as a “distinct, articulate pleasure” and a film that enjoys “a wonderful syncopation in its writerly rhythm and narrative surprise”, Sometimes Always Never has been further celebrated for the performance of its stars, particularly Bill Nighy.

Sometimes Always Never arrives in UK cinemas from February 22 and on Digital Download from February 25.
