A house in Palm Springs, where Dean Martin and friends used to party, has been put up for sale meaning we can have a closer look inside. The iconic member of the Rat Pack holidayed at the house in California which is now on the market priced at $1.8 million.
Rat Pack legend Dean Martin once holidayed in Palm Springs at this deluxe mansion, often partying with his buddies which, on some occasions, may have included Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. Maintained with its original furnishings as well as the white grand baby piano Martin donated to the house so he could play and sing during his visits, the house is up for sale at $1.8 million.
Martin is perhaps best know by film fans for his appearances in 5 Card Stud, Rio Bravo, the original Ocean’s 11, Airport and Cannonball Run I and II, amongst many others during a career spanning four decades. But his stardom was propelled as 50% of comedy duo Martin and Lewis (with Jerry Lewis), performing on stage and screen, and his iconic, crooning singing voice which afforded him hits such as “Memories Are Made of This”, “That’s Amore”, “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You”, and “Everybody Loves Somebody”. He was also famously a member of the Rat Pack, which included Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop (all of whom performed together in Sergeants 3 and Robin and the 7 Hoods as well as, perhaps most famously, Ocean’s 11).
Martin, who would have turned 100 last year, was more of a family man than he was given credit for, considering the all-partying public perception of his lifestyle. He was actually a teetotaller who preferred an early night. Understandably, he had many friends outside of the Rat Pack clan including close friends in Palm Springs who he would often visit, enjoying a complete break from show business.
One of his friend’s houses – the one that’s now for sale – was a classic Palm Springs mid-century modern home spaciously designed for entertaining. Martin gifted them a white baby grand piano so he could play and sing for their guests at Sunday afternoon tea dances, which he would host.
Boasting commanding views of the San Jacinto Mountains, the home, sited on over a quarter-acre lot, is cloaked in privacy and thick vegetation. 2,342 square feet with three bedrooms and three baths, the house is distinct in its crisp white finish that begs for the display of art while its terrazzo floors throughout guarantee a low maintenance lifestyle.
Traversing the back of the house are floor-to-ceiling glass walls while a gorgeous angular fireplace can be seen whether you’re in the dining area or living room. The large kitchen is filled with high-end appliances ready to use with most of the original furnishings, including the grand white baby piano, included in the sale.
