Director Brian A. Miller Seeks To Beat His Best 5.5 Rating On IMDB With Stallone-Starring “Backtrace”

Sylvester Stallone, Ryan Guzman and Matthew Modine star in Backtrace, a new crime thriller that director Brian A Miller hopes will deliver the action and suspense missing from his previous films. The straight-to-video effort arrives on Digital HD from January 7, 2019 before landing on DVD on January 14.

Backtrace - Sylvester Stallone

Brian A. Miller will attempt to beat his IMDB best score of 5.5 (earned for 2013’s Officer Down) when Backtrace arrives in the UK in January. His latest movie will be his eighth as director.

Sylvester Stallone (in a small role) is joined by Ryan Guzman, Christopher McDonald, Meadow Williams and Matthew Modine for this crime thriller that Miller hopes will deliver the thrills, suspense, action and intrigue sadly largely missing from his previous efforts.

Modine plays MacDonald, a prisoner suffering from amnesia following a brain injury caused when a bank heist went horribly wrong. Having spent a number of years in prison, he is coerced by an inmate and ward doctor – by way of a serum that makes him relive the life he has forgotten – to break out of prison and recover stolen cash. Now he’s on the run trying to elude Stallone’s detective, an FBI agent, and the drug’s dangerous side effects.

We hope Miller isn’t taking Stallone on his journey to single-handedly destroy the action-man status of Hollywood’s veteran stars after delivering three of Bruce Willis’ worst films of all time (2014’s actioner The Prince, 2015’s action-sci-fi Vice and the more recent Reprisal) but at least, as ManlyMovie.net confirms, Stallone was only on set fleetingly to shoot his scenes meaning his part is probably small.

“If Bruce Willis isn’t careful, he may soon be hit by a class-action lawsuit,” joked Frank Scheck in his Hollywood Reporter review of Reprisal. Here’s hoping the same sentiments won’t be aimed at Stallone when Backtrace arrives in the new year.

Backtrace is on Digital HD from January 7, 2019 before landing on DVD on January 14, 2019.

Rory Fish has loved movies since he can remember. If he was to put together an "all time" top 10 of absolute favourites it would have to include North By Northwest, 12 Angry Men and Sunset Boulevard.
