Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, on a break from filming Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw in the UK, took some downtime to workout in a Doncaster gym where he posed for pictures with surprised fitness enthusiasts.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, one of the coolest, nicest, and hard-working actors in Hollywood, is in the UK filming Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw. During a bit of downtime this week, he was in Yorkshire where shocked Doncaster fitness enthusiasts found themselves bench-pressing next to the former WWE wrestler.
Hobbs and Shaw, which features the eponymous characters played by Johnson and Jason Statham, focuses on the unlikely alliance between the US Diplomatic Security Agent and Deckard Shaw.
Principle photography began in London before moving to Glasgow and then to Yorkshire. It was here that Johnson made a surprise visit to Doncaster’s Global Fitness Gym. Owner, Craie Carrera, says he had an inkling a star was coming after someone came to assess the gym on behalf of “someone famous”.
Typical of Johnson’s off-screen persona, Carrera told the BBC he was a down-to-earth man, who was “very talkative, a nice guy, really genuine, just like an everyday person.”
Carrera, a bodybuilder himself, was somewhat in awe of the A-lister. He sad: “”He towers over you. He’s about 6ft 6in. He’s got fairly big arms – as a bodybuilder you’re eyeing up this sort of stuff all the time.”
Johnson is in the area filming scenes around the North Yorkshire village of Eggborough near Selby. Residents have been told to expect a production company to be working at Eggborough power station.
Hobbs and Shaw will be released in UK cinemas on August 2, 2019.
