Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s Under The Tree will get the Eureka Entertainment DVD and Blu-ray treatment and is set to be released on January 14. This will coincide with an On Demand release as well.

A dark suburban satire, Under The Tree tells the story of a man who is forced to move in with his parents after being accused of adultery by his ex-fiancee. Distrust and petty conflicts boil over into violence as the man fights for custody of his four-year-old daughter, leading to a bitter dispute between his parents and their neighbours over an old tree that casts a shadow on the neighbours’ deck.

Described as a “macabre and darkly funny slice of Icelandic noir – a bit like Fargo done Reykjavik-style” by the Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab, Under The Tree, which gradually sees its domestic dispute intensify, will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray with a 13-minute behind-the-scenes making-of. The Blu-ray will also possess a 1080p presentation.

Selected as the Icelandic entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards, Sigurðsson’s film arrives following Either Way (which was remade by David Gordon Green in 2013 as Prince Avalanche), further underlining his talents as a director. Screened to acclaim in the Contemporary World Cinema section of the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, Under The Tree has gone on to win awards such as Best Film at the Denver International Film Festival.

Under The Tree comes to dual format DVD/Blu-ray and On Demand on January 14, 2019.
