The Christmas Chronicles producer Chris Columbus has hailed its star Kurt Russell as the “definitive Santa Claus” ahead of the film’s release on Netflix.
Coming to Netflix on November 22 is your new holiday season favourite (potentially), The Santa Chronicles. Get ready for some early festive cheer as Hollywood great, Mr Charisma, Kurt Russell steps into Santa’s shoes in The Angry Birds Movie director Clay Kaytis’ new Christmas film. .
Hopeful of joining the list of Christmas classics, The Christmas Chronicles sees a brother (Judah Lewis) and sister (Darby Camp) inadvertently put the holidays at risk when, in trying to meet Santa, they cause him to crash his sleigh. Now the kids, Father Christmas and his elves must band together to save Christmas.
Producer Chris Columbus, who famously made one of the great Christmas movies in Home Alone, hailed Russell as the perfect Santa. He said The Hateful Eight and The Thing actor was “charismatic, tough when needed with a wicked sense of humour.” He’s excited about audiences seeing this performance in the hope “The Christmas Chronicles becomes a timeless classic.”
Added director Kaytis: “No one is better suited than Kurt Russell to bring our version of a rugged, charismatic, and hilarious Santa Claus to life.” He adds, “From our first meeting, he completely threw himself into this iconic role – and grew an impressive beard in the process. It has been a dream come true to work with Kurt in creating what I believe will be the new definition of Santa Claus for generations to come.”
The action-packed trailer featuring some of Russell’s trademark quips (think Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China or Dean Proffitt in Overboard) suggests this is going to be one fun ride.
The Christmas Chronicles is on Netflix from 22 November.
