Increasingly recognised for its Blu-ray collector editions of minor cult hits, forgotten classics and independent obscurities, Powerhouse Films released Jack Nicholson-starring The Border on Blu-ray for the first time in the UK earlier this year.
Earlier this year, the Indicator series unveiled The Border before bringing audiences Antonioni’s The Passenger. The latter film, when it was released in 1975, helped to secure Nicholson as one of Hollywood’s seventies stars.
Just The Passenger brought newcomers and fans remastered video and audio as well as an array of fascinating bonus material, The Border’s release is similarly impressive.
As well as a high definition remaster, The Border makes it UK Blu-ray premiere alongside a Guardian/NFT Tribute to Tony Richardson featuring archival audio of an event chaired by Sight & Sound editor Philip Dodd. Lindsay Anderson, Kevin Brownlow, Jocelyn Herbert, Vanessa Redgrave, Karel Reisz and Natasha Richardson, each sharie their memories of Tony Richardson.
In addition, there’s a limited edition exclusive 32-page booklet with a new essay by author Scott Harrison, and archival articles from Tony Richardson recalling The Border, and screenwriter Walon Green’s recollection of Jack Nicholson and filming The Border.
