“The Producers” Gets 4K Restoration; Releases On Blu-ray, DVD & EST September 10

“One of the funniest movies ever made” said renowned critic Roger Ebert. Mel Brooks’ much-loved comedy classic The Producers has been restored in 4K from the original negative ready for release on Blu-ray, DVD and EST on September 10.

The Producers - UK DVD/Blu-ray

Not only will the new Blu-ray, DVD and EST editions of The Producers boast a 4K restored version of the film but a very special introduction from writer-director Mel Brooks himself.

The Oscar-winning film from the legendary filmmaker behind Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles gives audiences new and old the chance to see one of the great comedies of all time.

Celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary, The Producers was recently released in UK cinemas for one day only on August 5.

Described by Roger Ebert as one of the “funniest movies ever made” and by critic Fernando F. Croce of CinePassion as a film that “knows that vulgarity is both meticulous art and timeless industry”, The Producers sees Zero Mostel’s washed up Broadway producer Max Bialystock forced into romancing old women to finance his plays.

But when mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) discovers a flop might make more money than a hit, Bialystock concocts a plan to create a sure-fire disaster.

The concept: a musical retelling of the “classic” love story between Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun entitled Springtime for Hitler. Unbeknown to Bialystock, his disaster play might just end up being a crowd-pleaser.

Extra features on the DVD and Blu-ray editions include a Q&A with Mel Brooks and TCM host Ben Mankiewicz from the TCM Classic Film Festival 2018, Making of The Producers, Paul Mazursky reads Peter Sellers ad, and Sketch gallery slideshow.

The Producers will be released in UK cinemas for one day only on August 5, and then on DVD/Blu-ray/EST on September 10.
