Heist comedy-thriller Blue Iguana gets a simultaneous UK theatrical and Digital HD release October 5 before landing on DVD October 8.
Inspired by quirky independent films of the 1980s and early 1990s – think Jarmusch, Demme and Tarantino – writer-director Hadi Hajaig brings us Blue Iguana starring Sam Rockwell.
The film finds ex-jailbirds, Eddie (Sam Rockwell) and Paul (Ben Schwartz), on parole working in a New York diner. They’re polar opposites: Eddie is calm, confident; Paul is loud-mouthed, impulsive. But they’re a team. Only problem is this team isn’t going anywhere.
That is until Katherine Rookwood (Phoebe Fox), an English lawyer enters there lives with an offer they can’t refuse. All they have to do is follow her to London to help acquire a valuable gem known as the Blue Iguana while evading the psychotic small-time crook Deacon Bradshaw (Peter Ferdinando).
Poorly received by critics and audiences in the States, the film isn’t given much hope internationally with a straight-to-video release. But maybe European audiences will “get” Hajaig’s vision more than our Stateside friends especially given the British sensibilities of its setting, production and comedy.
Boasting the talents of Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell, Blue Iguana receives a simultaneous UK theatrical and Digital HD release October 5 before landing on DVD October 8.
