Entertainment One UK unveils a new poster for Stan & Ollie starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly. The true story about the comedy great’s farewell UK tour arrives in cinemas in January 2019.
A new poster has been released for the upcoming biopic of comedy greats Laurel and Hardy. Starring Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy, Stan & Ollie is set for release early next year.
The film from Jon S. Baird (acclaimed director of Filth and the excellent football hooligan drama Cass) and writer Jeff Pope (who collaborated with Coogan on Philomena) sees the true story follow the lives of Hollywood’s once great comedy double act as they tour the UK at the tail-end of their careers.
Coogan and Reilly were announced as the eponymous pair in January 2016 with Pope (who described Laurel and Hardy as “heroes”) on writing duties having successfully worked with Coogan on the Academy Award-nominated Philomena (directed by Stephen Frears). Shooting began in the UK in the spring of 2017 at locations around Dudley in the West Midlands, Birmingham and Bristol.
The biographical comedy-drama sees Laurel and Hardy arrive in the UK to embark on a variety hall tour. With their golden era behind them, this would become a great farewell tour, the adversity of a waning popularity weighing on their friendship which continues to endure. What transpires is a mini comeback, winning back the hearts of an adoring public courtesy of the comedy duo’s love of performance.
Entertainment One UK will release the film in UK cinemas in January 2019.
