Studiocanal will release Mel Brooks’ much-loved comedy-musical The Producers starring the great Gene Wilder on DVD, Blu-ray and EST on September 10.

Celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary, The Producers will also return to UK cinemas for one day only on August 5 following a 4K restoration of Brooks’ Oscar-winning effort.

Described by critic Fernando F. Croce of CinePassion as a film that “knows that vulgarity is both meticulous art and timeless industry”, praising Brooks’ approach, The Producers sees Zero Mostel’s washed up Broadway producer Max Bialystock forced into romancing old women to finance his plays.

But when mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder) discovers a flop might make more money than a hit, Bialystock concocts a plan to create a sure-fire disaster.

The concept: a musical retelling of the “classic” love story between Adolf Hitler and Eva Braun entitled Springtime for Hitler. Unbeknown to Bialystock, his disaster play might just end up being a crowd-pleaser.

The Producers will be released in UK cinemas for one day only on August 5, and then on DVD/Blu-ray/EST on September 10.
