Martial Arts Fans Get To See Cengiz Dervis Flexing His Acting Chops In Upcoming Action Film “By Any Name”
Martial arts champion and kickboxing pro Cengiz Dervis will be flexing his muscles as well as his acting chops in upcoming British film By Any Name, a thriller set in the Brecon Beacons about a mysterious, blood-stained drifter who finds himself pursued by the police and military who want to get answers to a secret he harbours.
Bourne-like action thriller By Any Name will see former professional kickboxing and martial arts champion Cengiz Dervis take the lead in Euros Jones-Evans’ film based on the 2006 novel by Katherine John of the same name. Winning acclaim at various film festivals around the world including Carmarthen Bay Film Festival in the UK, Evans’ action thriller sees Dervis play John West, a man who is admitted to a psychiatric ward after being found running on the Brecon Beacons bloodstained and half naked.
Diagnosed with amnesia, ward doctor, Elizabeth Santer, is tasked with helping him to regain his memory. However, the plot thickens as it’s revealed that despite not knowing his name, he is armed with a deep knowledge of Wales, and a number of sophisticated military techniques. As a result, both he and Elizabeth finds themselves on the run from the police and military as the hunt is on for answers and time is running out.
“This film really is one of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on to date,” said Derviz, a former martial arts champion who began training as an actor while competing in tournaments. “The book is a fantastic read, and really enthralled readers of all ages, and with the responses we’ve had, it seems the film is doing just the same.” Certainly, John’s book won fans thanks to its twisty plot and inherent mystery.”
“To be part of this film really was incredible – but to have been chosen as the lead was a dream come true,” added Dervis, who perfected his acting craft courtesy of classes, workshops and courses in Paris, New York and LA. “I’m really proud of everyone involved, and can’t wait for it to be seen to a wider audience.”
By Any Name should see the actor find the audience his talent deserves having previously acted in award-winning short film and theatre. By Any Name arrives later this year.
