This Saturday July 30, Watford Borough Council’s two-in-one event, Big Screen on the Beach, launches with some heavyweight blockbusters and tonnes of sandy activity. The event lasts for a whopping 31 days, finishing on Bank Holiday Monday August 29.
Part of the council’s landmark Big Events series, Big Screen on the Beach lifts off on Saturday with family favourite The Lion King and the mega hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
From July 31 there will be fun activities every day for children, starting with a circus workshop on Sunday and including teddy bear picnics, Gambado play sessions and plenty more besides. There will even be a day of music on August 6, run by local radio station Vibe 107.6 FM and featuring Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Jasmine Alcock.
Keeping in the summer spirit, street food will be available at the beach, provided by seafood specialist Ace Tempura and one of Watford’s favourite bars, Bodega. There will be yummy bites like cheese burgers with hummus and caramelised onions, hot and crispy tempura, and chicken, cockle and mussel popcorn, plus much more.
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “We’re very excited to launch Big Screen on the Beach on Saturday. It’s going to be a fun-filled day, especially with huge hits like Star Wars and The Lion King showing. To add to the experience there will be great street food. We have gone out of our way to cater to different tastes and needs – we even have gluten free food. The people of Watford and visitors to our town deserve to have a good time.”
