Having told Time Out last year he’d rather “slash his wrists” than do another James Bond film, it now looks official that Daniel Craig has quit Bond as he’s just signed to star in a new US TV series called Purity. Who is going to fill his boots?
Back in October, Top 10 Films speculated who would be the next James Bond after rumours emerged that Daniel Craig was ready to relinquish his licence to kill. Now it seems there was truth to the hearsay.
Craig has signed on to play Andreas Wolf in a new US drama series, a German who helps the show’s eponymous character Purity track down her father. Various networks are currently bidding for the rights to screen the TV series.
While it hasn’t been officially announced that Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are seeking a new actor to play 007, it hasn’t stopped the rumour mill speculating on who will step into the secret agent’s shoes.
If Daniel Craig has quit Bond, it’ll be all change for the next film in the franchise with director of the last two films – Spectre and Skyfall – Sam Mendes announcing that he won’t be returning to helm.
So, has Craig got any advice for the next Bond? “Don’t be shit,” he told Time Out. “You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. Just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond.”
