Daniel Craig Has Quit Bond…For Good

Having told Time Out last year he’d rather “slash his wrists” than do another James Bond film, it now looks official that Daniel Craig has quit Bond as he’s just signed to star in a new US TV series called Purity. Who is going to fill his boots?

Daniel Craig has quit Bond

Back in October, Top 10 Films speculated who would be the next James Bond after rumours emerged that Daniel Craig was ready to relinquish his licence to kill. Now it seems there was truth to the hearsay.

Craig has signed on to play Andreas Wolf in a new US drama series, a German who helps the show’s eponymous character Purity track down her father. Various networks are currently bidding for the rights to screen the TV series.

While it hasn’t been officially announced that Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are seeking a new actor to play 007, it hasn’t stopped the rumour mill speculating on who will step into the secret agent’s shoes.

The 10 Best Candidates To Play The Next James Bond

If Daniel Craig has quit Bond, it’ll be all change for the next film in the franchise with director of the last two films – Spectre and SkyfallSam Mendes announcing that he won’t be returning to helm.

So, has Craig got any advice for the next Bond? “Don’t be shit,” he told Time Out. “You’ve got to step up. People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. Just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond.”

Rory Fish has loved movies since he can remember. If he was to put together an "all time" top 10 of absolute favourites it would have to include North By Northwest, 12 Angry Men and Sunset Boulevard.

It’s time for Bond to move on again I think. I heard Christopher Waltz was signed up to return – with no Mendes or Craig, will he return.

    Damian Lewis is my pick.

I feel sorry for Craig – the majority of public opinion still seems to be against him, and the press were always lining up his replacements. I think he’s a credible Bond and he’s had one of the strongest runs of any of the actors and I’d love to see him do one more and get a proper film to ride out on (although SPECTRE was nowhere near Die Another Day…)

Oh wow, this is news to me! Will be sad to not see another Daniel Craig Bond – I think he’s done brilliantly and probably my favourite Bond. My vote for next Bond goes to Tom Hardy, if we’re at that point…!
