Top 10 Films is gearing up for Halloween with a look at UK movie fans’ favourite horror villains. 1,800 people were surveyed and here’s the findings…

With Halloween fast approaching, it’s time to start making a list of the best horror films to bring in this special time of year. In order to find out who gives us the biggest scares, Best Offers Bingo have surveyed 1,800 film fans to find out who they considered to be the best movie villain of all time. It’s no surprise that some iconic, chilling characters managed to top the polls. To find out the top 10 horror movie villains of all time, make sure to read on.

10. Michael Myers – 49 votes

Halloween 2 - Top 10 FilmsMichael Myers is a character from the Halloween series of slasher films. He first appears in John Carpenter’s Halloween as a young boy who murders his older sister, then fifteen years later returns home to murder more teenagers. The mask he wears is what really makes this villain a sinister one.

Pennywise, Best Clowns, Scariest Clowns, Top 10 Clown Films,This smiling and creepy clown has given the “funny” clown costumes a reputation for being scary for years. All because of a Stephen King novel simply called “It”.

8. The Thing – 54 votes

7. Candyman – 80 votes

Because of its lasting scare factor, you can see why Jaws is one of the most iconic villains of all time, and definitely the most realistic.

Anthony Perkins, Alfred Hitchcock, Psycho - Top 10 FilmsThis young momma’s boy certainly sent shivers down the spine. For good reason too as he was a calculated murderer. Norman Bates is not a real person, but was based on someone living, making the character that little bit creepier!

3. Alien – 190 votes

Nightmare on Elm Street, film, horror, wes craven - Top 10 FilmsYou cannot escape Freddy Krueger, not if you ever need to sleep. This dastardly, sharp handed villain will kill you in your dreams. Sleep tight.

Silence of the Lambs, Lector, Anthony Hopkins - Top 10 FilmsIn first place is the infamous Hannibal Lecter. Hannibal is an extremely clever individual who just so happens to have a taste for human flesh. He becomes almost likeable in the film by helping catch other criminals.

    Good piece, even if I disagree with the order and with the obvious omission of Mr. Voorhees. But good to see Myers and Krueger on it.

    I feel like Jaws is kind of a cheap entry because I don’t consider it a “villian.” To me it’s more of a monster. Same thing with The Thing (even though I love it) and the Alien. I love that Pennywise, Freddy Krueger, and Hannibal Lecter made the list though.
