With comic book superheroes blazing onto our cinema screens seemingly every week, they have become a regular part of our pop culture diet. But what’s the UK’s favourite…?
Comics have been growing in popularity for a number of years. Most of us have grown up with comics and have seen these series evolve into films and TV adaptations. No matter whether you’re a novice or a comic book enthusiast, we all have our favourite comic superhero.
Best Offers Bingo have recently conducted a survey in order to find out who the nation’s favourite superhero is. Over 1,200 people in the UK were asked to participate in the survey and to pick their all-time favourite comic book superhero. Below we have the UK’s top five superheroes.
1. Superman with 298 votes
It’s no surprise that the man of steel flies into first place in the survey. When you say the word superhero, Superman is one of the very first that comes to mind. There have been many interpretations of this comic book. Especially when it comes to name changes. The Superman comics have been going since 1938, and there have been a number of changes to the name of the comics over the years.
2. Batman with 266 votes
A millionaire gadget-loving hero that resides in the dark city of Gotham. Batman is an ongoing comic book series featuring the DC Comics hero of the same name. The character first appeared in 1939. The Batman comic book was initially launched as a quarterly publication, it later became a bimonthly series through the late 1950s because of popular demand! After this it became a monthly publication and has remained so since.
3. Spider-Man with 147 votes
Spiderman is a Marvel comic character who has a diverse personality. Both in his everyday life as Peter Parker, and also as his secret superhero persona, Spiderman. The character was created by the infamous Stan Lee. Lee conceived the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, after his parents mysteriously disappeared. The comics depict him as a teenager, having to deal with the normal struggles of adolescence and also as a secret crime fighter.
4. Wolverine with 103 votes
Wolverine is an ongoing comic book series that started publication in 1988 and lasted until 2003. Wolverine wears either civilian clothes or a mask-less, all black outfit instead of his superhero costume, and costumed characters in general were few and far between. Wolverine was born with super-human senses and the power to heal every wound. Wolverine was captured by a secret Canadian organization and given an unbreakable skeleton and claws. However this made him mentally disturbed and it took him years to control his rage.
5. Wonder Woman with 93 votes
Wonder Woman is a fictional female superhero that first appeared in DC comics in America. The character is a warrior princess from the Amazons. She is a royal in her homelands. Wonder Woman is gifted with a wide range of superhuman powers. She has a range of superior combat and battle skills which has won the hearts of many comic book fans. She is a fantasy sex symbol, but also a feminist symbol of power to women around the world. Many female cosplayers choose to use her as their character at events such as Comic Con.
