Directed by Pete Travis and starring Riz Ahmed, Billie Piper, Cush Jumbo, James Floyd and Roshan Seth, City of Tiny Lights is based on Patrick Neale’s novel of the same name. It will be released next year.
City of Tiny Lights, a thrilling London-set film noir written by award-winning author Patrick Neate, based on his novel of the same name, starts principal photography on the 27th of April. The film will shoot for six weeks in London and will be released in 2016.
The film will be directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point, Endgame, Dredd) and produced by Ado Yoshizaki-Cassuto and Rebecca O’Brien. It is an NDF International and Sixteen Films production made with support of the BFI and BBC Films, in association with Lip Sync Productions LLP, Fel UK and Ingenious Media and will be released in the UK and Ireland in 2016 by Icon Film Distribution.
BBC Films, which remains at the forefront of independent filmmaking in the UK, helped develop the script. Recent releases include Alan Rickman’s A Little Chaos starring Kate Winslet and Michael Winterbottom’s The Face of an Angel starring Daniel Brühl, Kate Beckinsale and Cara Delevingne. Upcoming releases include Thomas Vinterberg’s Far from the Madding Crowd starring Carey Mulligan, and London Road, the film adaptation of Rufus Norris’ critically acclaimed National Theatre production starring Olivia Colman.
Along with BBC Films, the BFI Film Fund will also help finance the project. With over £26m to invest a year, the BFI is the UK’s largest public investor in film – supporting first-class filmmaking through development and production, to distribution and international sales.
Recent releases backed by the BFI Film Fund include Mike Leigh’s critical and box office hit, Mr. Turner; Matthew Warchus’s Pride, and Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin.
For City of Tiny Lights the cast is led by Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Shifty, Four Lions) who plays down at heel gumshoe Tommy Akhtar, and Billie Piper (Penny Dreadful, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) plays Shelley, his long lost love. The ensemble includes Cush Jumbo (Josephine and I, The Inbetweeners), James Floyd (My Brother the Devil, Everywhere and Nowhere) and Roshan Seth (Indian Summers, Gandhi, My Beautiful Laundrette).
City of Tiny Lights is a unique portrait of contemporary London as a teeming multicultural metropolis where nothing is as it seems.
