Orange Wednesdays’ 2-4-1 Replaced By Meerkat Movies

Meerkat Movies replaces Orange Wednesdays to offer cinemagoers great value for money with two-for-one on cinema tickets. Here’s how it works and how to claim your free tickets…

Meerkat Movies, Top 10 Films,

Orange Wednesdays offered cinemagoers two tickets for the price of one, both helping to revitalise business on an otherwise quiet day at the movies and give customers better value for money. Now a thing of the past, after 12 long years and some very funny, all-star adverts featuring a hapless marketing executive trying to get mobile phones into classic films, Meerkat Movies replaces the initiative with a similar service targeting Britain’s new favourite cheap-date night!

The new initiative sees price comparison site Compare The Market take over from mobile phone provider Orange with a promotion fronted by its recognisable meerkats. Instead of needing a contract with EE, cinemagoers will be able to claim 2-4-1 on cinema tickets by downloading the Meerkat Movies app from comparethemarket.com. Eligibility relies on being a customer of Compare The Market, for example, those who have or will switch insurance, energy utility or money product through the website. Five million existing customers are already eligible. An added bonus for movie lovers is that the service will be available on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

“This is the biggest step change for the brand since launching the Meerkat Toy Collection in 2011 and reinforces our commitment to rewarding our customers,” said marketing director Mark Vile. “Meerkat Movies opens up the exciting world of film for us and allows us to offer our customers the magic of movies for less every Tuesday and Wednesday for a whole year.”

Compare The Market claims that with an average cinema tciket costing £6.72, a customer making use of the offer every week for a year would save £349.44.

Meanwhile, EE, who previously ran the 2-4-1 scheme, have realigned their business plans towards the “watching habits of UK adults”. This will see them offer discounts for online film streaming through the newly launched EE Film Club. This service will allow EE, Orange and T-Mobile customers to rent films online for a week for just £1. This will be done via texting the word “film” to 141 to gain a code to redeem on the website. Films can then be streamed on various devices.
