Classic Scenes #14: The Terminator (1984)

Sarah Connor, targeted for assassination and pursued by a seemingly unstoppable killer robot, finds that a police station full of cops can’t protect her…

Claustrophobic, relentless, frenetic and absolutely terrifying, James Cameron’s nightmarish vision of a merciless killer robot played with expressionless perfection by a determined Arnold Schwarzenegger is at its best when the Terminator arrives at a police station in search of its prey. In this fantastic sequence – an example of just how good director Cameron is at mixing action-adventure with horror – protagonist Sarah Connor has reason to believe she’s safe from the Terminator’s killer instinct given that she’s now housed within the confines of a police station full of cops. But the Terminator has other ideas while the cops, in failing to believe Kyle Reese’s story of a future run by machines, underestimate the power of the robot and succumb to its spray of bullets. Reese, sent from the future to protect Connor, is once again pressed into action as the twosome go on the run, narrowly escaping the Terminator’s grasp.

I just happened to have watched this movie again last week and it is as awesome as ever. That scene especially….like the way the Terminator is looking at the corners of the area the police officer is sitting, calculating if he will be able to destroy it with the car.
