1. The Notebook (Cassavetes, 2004)

notebook-movie-romanceBegins in a nursing home where an elderly man tells the story of a poor but devoted young man, a rich, well-educated young woman and their fight to overcome their differences in social status. This is a story of true love and how people will endure so that they can be together in the end – based on a novel written by Nicholas Sparks under the same name.

…Love the inclusion of the three “Before” films in the top spots…and the leaning towards more offbeat fare…great choices! 🙂

My idea of romance includes the true story of 1500 people dying. Can’t beat Titanic!

Generally I’m not a big fan of romance, which is evidenced by the fact that I’ve only seen one film on your list. Thankfully my significant other is very much the same way. But if we find ourselves feeling sappy at some point we’ll keep these movies in mind.

How could I have missed this post!! LOVE that you include P.S. I LOVE YOU, such an underrated rom-com that’s genuinely heart-wrenching AND funny! I still need to see The Time Traveller’s Wife, but I’d also add the Nora Ephron rom-coms like You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle.
