Top10Films.co.uk turns one

Tomorrow, 12 months ago, was Top10Films.co.uk’s first official post. The post in question was a little top 10 list and career retrospective of famed comedy actor Steve Martin. The article has remained one of our most popular. To celebrate the site’s first birthday, I’m looking back over 12 months of posts to highlight some of my favourites, reveal the most viewed and most commented top 10 lists, and look forward to, hopefully, another successful 12 months. I want to also take this opportunity to thank all the site’s contributors (names and links within) and regular readers and commentators.

But after seeing, and being disappointed, by his performance in the film The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, he immediately called Spielberg on the phone and begged for the part fearing no one in Hollywood would hire him ever again. The rest, as they say, is history. Dreyfuss would appear in one of the most iconic horror movies of the 1970s. Top 10 Films presents Top 10 Richard Dreyfuss? What film is your favourite?

Review: The Gauntlet

If I was to give any credit to Clint Eastwood’s action-thriller The Gauntlet it would be for its poster. One of those cartoon-like depictions of a very un-cartoon-like film. Designed by the late artist Frank Fazetta, the poster depicts heroic alpha male Clint Eastwood protecting pretty blonde prostitute Sondra Locke from a haze of bullets. But other than the poster there isn’t a lot to recommend about Eastwood’s 1977 film. He’s not yet the accomplished director of Unforgiven, or later Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino, and he’s lumbered with Michael Butler and Dennis Shryack’s imbecilic script that beggars belief with every gun shot – and there’s A LOT of gun shots!

Top 30 Horror Films 1967 – 1979 (Part 3)

Just in time for Halloween, we conclude our look at the best horror movies of the late 1960s and 1970s. In Part 3 we run down the top 10 scary movies released between 1967 and 1979. We have witches, and we have demonic children, pagan cults and fanatically religious mothers. Also in the mix are a family of cannibals, a host of dispensable teenagers, an insane brother, a loving father, a computer named Mother, and a son hell bent on taking over the world. And we must not forget the terrifying alien, the shark off Amity Island, and that strange little woman who stalks Donald Suhterland in Don’t Look Now.
