Sequel To “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” Arriving In Theaters Oct 2018

It’s official: the next American film in the Swedish book series Millennium is none other than The Girl In The Spider’s Web. Fede Alvarez is directing, but unfortunately actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara will not be reprising their respective rolls.

Nearly six years ago, renowned director David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) made his dark remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, based on the first book in Swedish author Stieg Larsson’s critically acclaimed Millennium-series. Unfortunately though the film wasn’t as successful as Sony had hoped for; so they paused any plans on a sequel. Now Sony have decided to skip two books in Stieg Larsson’s series, and instead make a movie of the last book: “Det som inte dödar oss,” (Swedish title) written by David Lagercrantz.

At the same time, this new film becomes a bit of a reboot – with a new director, as well as a completely new cast. Director Fede Alvarez have some decent movies under his belt, with Evil Dead and Do Not Breathe being the most recognizable ones. According to reports he has already met with actresses to take take over the lead role of hacker Lisbeth Salander; previously played by Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara. The shooting of The Girl In The Spider’s Web begins in September, and the film has already received a release date of October 5, 2018.

Sony is hoping that the movie will be produced for a considerably cheaper price tag than the David Fincher flick. That movie’s budget was about 90 million dollars and to spend that kind of money you’ll have to feel confident it will be a winner, just like betting on slots! It is unclear though; whether or not the film will be recorded on Swedish soil like the previous iteration, which was recorded in and around Stockholm.

“This is very exciting, I’m enormously grateful for this opportunity. Lisbeth Salander is a character that every director dreams of directing. We have a fantastic script, and now fun part begins- said director Fede Alvarez, to the movie press.

The fourth part in the series continues where The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest ended and if the book is some indication of what the film can offer, we can look forward to one awesome ride; with a lot of thrills, tension, clever dialogue, fascinating characters and a nail biting intrigue!
