Groundhog Day, Duck Soup, The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz are definitely favourites.
A few others that creep into my mind are All About Eve, Singing in the Rain, Beetlejuice, Hackers, Life of Brian. There are so many 80s and 90s films that fit into this category, as well as the reliable black and whites and musicals.

I have to say though, the genre which, for me, never fails to live up to this top 10 title is that of the period drama, although quite often the best of it exists in the form of TV series rather than film...Downton Abbey being one of the most recent enjoyable creations!

@iLoveOlivier Waiting for Guffman is a really brilliant film and extremely quotable :)

Great list Dan! I've seen a good number of these and I agree with you on those. One pick for me, I would have to say Willy Wonka. I cry everytime because I'm so happy for Charlie at the end. Thanks for putting The Goodbye Girl on your list. I feel that people have forgotten how great this movie is. I re-watched it about a year ago and it's still great!

Wonderful list ILoveOlivier. Indication of the personal reasons why films make us happy. Of your choices - Waiting For Guffman, The Great Outdoors, The Wedding Singer, and Sister Act 2 have the same effect on me. Thanks for contributing.

Fatso with Dom DeLuise makes me happy because it's so closely linked with my family, so whenever I'm home sick I just watch it and..yeah, feel better. Haha, also The Trouble With Angels (Hayley Mills, circa 1960s) and...oh, it's a list :D

1. Fatso - connection with family & good food scenes 2. The Trouble With Angels - connection w/ family but also bc it's a cute story 3. Don't Drink The Water (1994) - hilarious in an offbeat way 4. The Ghost And Mrs. Muir (1947) - slow moving romantic film, beautiful score by Bernard Hermann, also features a young Natalie Wood 5. Waiting For Guffman - connection with family & exactly my kind of humor 6. The Baxter - funny look at romantic relationships, simple but wonderful plot 7. The Great Outdoors - i love John Candy and this movie just makes me happy, connection with family 8. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - whenever I see the "Pure Imagination" scene my heart melts (yes, like chocolate) and i'm 6 years old again 9. The Birdcage or La Cage Aux Folles - they are so similar i count them as one, even though the original is slightly better :) but the plot is undeniably hilarious 10. The Wedding Singer - i will always love this movie, i'm an SNL lover, and Adam Sandler is perfect in this role, probably one of his best films 11. Pee Wee's Big Adventure - my cup of (zany) tea 12. Big Fat Greek Wedding - the cast is perfect, the comedy is timed perfectly, i love how Greek culture is portrayed as well (i've heard it's pretty accurate) 12. Citizen Kane - admittedly, i can't watch this film anytime, i definitely have to be in a serious mood, but everytime i watch Orson Welle's classic is a carthartic experience...every shot is brilliant. 13. Lady and the Tramp - my favorite Disney movie, I'm a dog lover and a Peggy Lee lover, so this film is pretty awesome 14. Yentl - beautifully composed songs, and an interesting look at Jewish customs from past eras...plus i usually love all of Barbra's films :) 15. Godspell (1973) - the whole cast is amazing with outstanding voices, the songs are timeless, also connection w/ family 16. So I Married An Axe Murderer - connection w/ family and Mike Meyers is so funny as the dad 17. Little Women (1949) - something about this film makes me happy, it might be June Allyson, I've always liked her acting 18. Father of the Bride (1991) - feel good movie with Martin Short's famous character Franck, also connection w/ family 19. Sister Act 2 - a feel good film, and Lauryn Hill's voice is...ridiculously good 20. Bicentennial Man - a sweet story about human dignity, beautiful score 21. Rushmore - the characters are a bit ridiculous, but the directing is so unique I love this film, plus Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray's acting is spot on for their quirky characters, also good soundtrack 22. Moonstruck - connection with family, the cast is perfect even down to Cher's fiance and his dying loud-mouthed mother, just really funny 23. Anchorman - i'm not big on crude comedies, but I make an exception for this genius film about a man who wore a suit so good he made Frank Sinatra look like a bum, plus every scene is full of amazing quotes 24. Heavyweights - connection w/ family and Ben Stiller is hilarious as crazed fitness instructor Tony Perkis 25. Something's Gotta Give - i love the color scheme of the film, something about it is relaxing, love the French-infused style of the film, great soundtrack, great acting
