I cant believe no one has mentioned Barry Humphrey's 'The Wonderful World of Barry McKenzie' Best ever Aussie Movie!!!!(or at least starring an Aussie) Hard to come by these days though, someone should release this on DVD a surefire classic!!

I'm just starting to get to know Australian comedies (or Australian films at all). Love Priscilla and The Man Who Sued God. Saw a great film at Raindance this year - The Wedding Party. If that doesn't make it into an updated list of the best Australian comedies there's no justice in the world.

I love this list! And what makes it complete (for me) is the inclusion of Priscilla! One of my favourites, not only in the Australian comedy genre but in general, is Muriel's Wedding. I love the way they balanced heartbreaking scenes with perfect comedy. That and Life of Brian were two films I watched as a child and loved even thought I was a probably a little too young to fully grasp the comedy! Another relatively mainstream favourite is Strictly Ballroom. As a child it actually used to scare me a little (as did Muriel's family).
I just scrolled back up to see if anyone had mentioned these films and I see that Gelpi has included them. M.W. is definitely one of my favourite moments of Toni Collette's film career.

You've made me want to go and watch Kath and Kim again :) Do you remember "The Adventures of Lano and Woodley"? I was actually discussing this with someone the other day - That Australian comedy probably makes it to the top of my list, if I had to choose the comedy of one nation - English comedy would be up there too. I'm undecided as to where I would place Irish comedy...

I'm not very well-versed on Australian comedy since I've only seen two of these, but this is a really interesting list! I'll definitely be checking out Hercules Returns- that sounds like something I'll love.

Too bad they all seem to be very male-dominated, but I guess that's a worldwide trend in popular comedies.

@ goregirl - that doc was apparently produced or "presented by" Quentin Tarantino, a person who I would have thought to be the last person you'd find on a piece about D-grade Aussie horror films! Regardless, that doco was awesome, and is worth watching for anyone who's a fan of budget filmmaking. I watched it myself when it was on TV here earlier in the year: the bits featuring the late Dennis Hopper were hilarious.

If you can get your hands on Kenny and Hercules Returns, do so, because they're real gems.

@ Encore - I haven't seen Matthew Newtons debut feature Three Blind Mice, I'll have to check it out.
