The Oscars 2013 took place last night in Los Angeles. We take a look at the winners with Argo, director Ang Lee, and actors Daniel Day-Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence bagging the top prizes.

Best Picture – Argo

Best Director – Ang Lee (Life of Pi)

Best Actor – Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)

Best Actress – Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook)

Best Supporting Actor – Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained)

Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables)

Best Original Screenplay – Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained)

Best Adapted Screenplay – Chris Terrio (Argo)

Best Original Score – Mychael Danna (Life Of Pi)

Best Original Song – “Skyfall” (Performed by Adele)

Best Foreign Language Feature – Amour

Other Oscars went to Brave (Best Animated Feature), Searching for Sugarman (Best Documentary Feature), Lincoln (Best Production Design) and Zero Dark Thirty and Skyfall who shared the Best Sound Editing gong. There were also more awards for Life of Pi (Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography), Argo (Best Film Editing), and Les Miserables (Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing). Rounding out the awards were Oscars for Inocente for Best Live Action Short, Paperman for Best Animated Short, Lincoln for Best Production Design, and Anna Karenina for Best Costume Design.

Grant Heslov’s speech to the Academy was awesome (and quite pointed), while DDL make me chuckle referring to Meryl Streep.

And Seth MacFarlane wasn’t THAT bad….

Seth was very funny.

DDL’s speech was fantastic.

Lee winning for director is ridiculous. He should have at least acknowledged Affleck seeing as he was the righful winner. He won every pre-cursor to the oscars. That’s a very big snub imo.

Life of Pi winning best cinematography is quite silly. This is a film that looks to be about 75-80% CGI so how can you give it best cinematography over other greats like the iconic Roger Deakins? Terrible choice.

Lawrence was great in SLP and it’s nice to see her win, but imo, Riva gave the performance of a lifetime, one of the best female performances I have ever seen, up there with Theron in Monster. So a little bittersweet imo.

There was way too much focus on Chicago this year. It was a mediocre film that won best picture in 2002, robbing The Pianist and they honoured it again, which is ridiculous.

Quentin and Waltz were great winners and overall it was a decent show in regards to the winners.

I was shocked that Waltz won Best Supporting Actor again so soon and that Tarantino nabbed Best Original Screenplay. I wasn’t suspecting Life of Pi would rack up that many awards considering I didn’t think it was mind-blowing. Best Director made sense considering people said the book was unfilmable, but I thought Skyfall was robbed in the Best Score and Cinematography categories. I also couldn’t believr that Brave took Best Animated. I though Wreck-It.Ralph or ParaNorman were much more deserving. I was pretty happy with everything else.
